    Maybe just tell them the first one is always is in the box and the second is out.

    I also try and tell mine the divisor is doing the diviSION stressing the "S" sound

    and the dividend is the one being divided...trying to stress "divide" on both words
    not sure if it helps but works with my 6th graders
