Jody,

There are several posts that speak to control, but you mentioned one thing that caught my eye. Your statement, "I look 16-18 years old."

Jody, they look at you and see "peer". Put your hair up, wear a conserative
outfit,(no jeans jean skirts/jumpers) some light make-up, and be seen talking with the older staff. Something about that non-verbal look sends the message that you are an adult who deserves respect.

The next thing you have to do is develop a voice of authority. No yelling, no whining type sounds, just a firm, authoritive voice. Practice out loud at home to find this voice and

get used to it. It helps to listen to the seasoned (7+ years) and the master teachers (15+ years w/mentoring experience.)

Next, find a class or someone who can teach you how to manage classroom discipline. For me it was a superintendent with a great sense of humor and a list of readings as long as I am tall.

Alphie Kohn, and William Glasser come to mind. Also, see if you can find some Lee Canter stuff.

Hope this helps and I hope I did not hurt your feelings about your clothing and voice.
