Word Endings
By ConnieWI

Clip to ScrapBook
First, I teach third grade so these ideas may be too difficult for your students.
--For yourself, make a list of words you want all your second graders to know and some extra words to challenge those who already have the
concept.
--Make a list of rules for yourself. Each week, teach one of the rules during your word study for the week. Have students manipulate letters and build the words.
--Make a poster of one rule and add words as examples. Be sure to include the base/root word and the spelling with the ending. Each week, make a new poster with that week's rule and words.
--Also, post the words
on your word wall.

There are adults who do not understand these rules...I get notes all the time with misspelled words! Introduce this slowly with lots of practice, and your second graders will understand it better than their parents!
