1. Pick a quiet signal - like hands up, clapping a pattern that they follow, etc, and teach it to them first thing. 2. This was really cute - a sub had a teddy bear bag around her neck, and she took things out one at a time to show the kids, but called them by their wrong names (ex: "sticklip" for lipstick, "five dollar bill" for a one dollar bill, etc.) When she was done showing them, she let the kids tell her what she had said wrong, then explained she had said the names wrong to see whether they were listening to her. You can get creative here...have fun with telling them your expecatations!
