beginning substituting
By Patrice

Clip to ScrapBook
I recently finished my credential and started substituting too. I agree that it is both exciting and somewhat terrifying! So far I have had good luck with teachers leaving easy-to-understand lesson plans. The problem is having the time to read and comprehend them before the fun begins! What seems to help me is to arrive as early as possible and to bring with me a few things that I am comfortable with, such as a grade-appropriate book, a word game, flash cards, my own whistle (for classroom and yard duty), etc. Good luck! There are some advantages to substituting, not the least of which is to see what other great teachers out there are doing.
