Do we work at the same school?
By trtlgrl

Clip to ScrapBook
Our "Media Specialist" is a former classroom teacher, although I have a hard time picturing her in the classroom. She has a full-time assistant, but I am expected to teach 25 six-year-olds to read and comprehend fluently
(along with the other things they must know) without any kind of aide and amidst the millions of disruptions on any given day. Our media specialist spends her day, once she finally arrives at school 1/2 hour later than everyone else, gossiping with her "assistant" while the classes she is supposed to serve are expected to sit silently at their tables with the same tired box of books in front
of them week after week. They are not allowed to browse the shelves of books (who knows why?). Then she complains to the classroom teacher of how unruly the class was during "library time" and leaves the school grounds for lunch, to run errands, etc. and leaves for the day by 2:00 even though the school day doesn't end until 2:30. She is permitted to cancel classes as she sees fit and closes at least two weeks before the end of the year to "inventory" the library. I feel so badly for her having to work in such a stressful environemt (yeah, right!)
Sorry, this topic hit a sore spot. :-)
