RE: RtI
By JKB

Clip to ScrapBook
One of the schools in our district piloted the program last year. They conducted it with K and 1st grade students. All K-1 teachers, title teacher, resource teachers, at risk paras, and even the principal took small groups
of children. They felt it was highly successful and continued it again this year. Now, they are covering grades K-2.

Meanwhile, our school just got started. We are initially only using the program with our first grade students. There are two 45 minute blocks set aside each week specifically for this program. Similar to the other school, it includes our 1st grade teachers,
resource teachers, at risk para, Speech and Language Therapist, Social Worker and our principal. Just before the holidays, all the first graders were assessed using Dibels. Then, the results were used to determine which students would be placed in which tiers.

This week was the first week that RtI instruction started.

It's too soon to tell what the outcome will be, but if they find it successful, the hope is to expand it to include more grades next year.
