I did something similar with lunch menu. I told them they had $1.25 for lunch and then gave them 4 choices in different categories (fruit/veg, beverage, sandwich, snack) and they had to make choices - focusing on healthy| choices which ties into Science chapter we are starting. They had a worksheet with the food/prices on it. They recorded their choices and then we shared our menus. My kids loved it! They asked me to make a new menu and do it again! I was thinking of doing it with items they might buy in a toy store - of course with just small prices and see what they come up with. We also did an activity | | with the book Alexander, Who Used to be rich. I got the lesson off the internet so I don't take credit for it. You give the students a few round 'bus' tokens and then $1.00 in coins. As Alexander spends his money, they spend theirs. If they follow along correctly, in the end they only the bus tokens left - no money. If you do a web search I'm sure you'll find it. They loved that one too! I also bought money stickers and have made puzzle cards where they match the coins to the amount.
