I used Pigs Will Be Pigs book...Gist: pigs scrounge the house to go get Mexican Food. I made menus...Distributed paper money and coins...Children had to order from each category...used with a register seta few tables like| a restaurant...had some take orders...make change,etc...Try to be as realistic as possible...restaurant supply places can be helpful...Students loved this... we pretended, but did not use food...a distraction...Benefits: real life experience...reading ,writing, and math...plus my kids have little experience in sit down restaurants...ones that don't have clowns and toys... We had mini lesson | |
on ettiquette,too.( My pet peeve is going out to eat and having my experience ruined by loud children, running around restaurants.) Don't get me wrong, we had fun but modeled good behavior...quiet voices...public/private behaviors...I was the owner...My staff greeted and seated. We did this over a week and invited the principal to come to our grand opening(observe our skills)
