How many books are the students allowed to take out of the library at a time? If they are allowed to take more than one could there be a compromise? I'm thinking, take one on their level and then one they just want to read.
There is a lot to be said about students reading books that are their just right level (especially the young ones) but there is also much to be said for being able to be excited about books. Are you in a school where you can expect the parents to read their library books aloud to the students? Also, at some point the students need to be deciding whether or not books are right for
them on their own. If they ever go to a book store or the public library, they need to know how to get books that they can read!

Our school doesn't have a library. We use the 100 Book Challenge program which originally was only leveled by color. The students knew what color they were in and could get books that they could read. This year, our reading coach split all of the books up and now they are sorted in our classrooms by genre. I have books from a Kindergarten to a fourth grade level in my classroom. For my low guys, I don't think this is the most beneficial. They struggle finding books that they are able to read because they are so far and few between. Plus, they haven't really learned how to figure out which books are good for them yet!

Bottom line: I see both sides and think a compromise would be best! :D
