More immediate rewards are important. Maybe a ticket that puts them in a drawing or earns points towards something.

There was a psychological study done that I will generalize. It said that if you asked a roomful of kids if they wanted one small piece of candy now or a basketful in a week, most would choose the one small piece.

Also, having a reward based on the entire class pulling their weight is sad and frustrating to those that actually DO the work.
