Our colleges and universities haven't offered an education degree in fifteen or more years, not at the bachelor's level. I'm in Colorado. Here you earn a bachelor's in a discipline, and you have to have an academic minor,
as well. Education is a certificate that's tacked onto the end--you have to go to school for five years here. Things may have changed and I don't know about it since I'm already in the classroom, but I can't imagine that they've changed it much--not with NCLB and no teacher shortage here. I could be wrong here, as well, but I think Massachusetts is the same deal. I know there are
a few other states with the same requirements.

When I was in school, there was a woman in class with me who was from California. She had taught for nine years in California, but she had a degree in education, and Colorado wouldn't let her teach. She was pretty mad about it too, because here she was, back in school after having done this job for nine years already.

But I'm sure we're not the only state with those requirements.

We have masters degrees in education, just not bachelor's degrees.
