It just depends. I have done it both ways. If I can manage it, I write brief hand written notes on small inexpensive thank you cards. If I really couldn't carve out that much time, I have created a typed note on the computer, and signed it. I feel like any note is better than no note.
Some teachers just put out a blanket TY in their newsletters. People like to think you appreciate their gifts and efforts.:s)
