I usually get a class gift By tammynj

in addition to individual gifts. I teach at a Catholic school in an affluent area. I think the parents realize you are underpaid and are generous at Christmas and at the end of the year. Some years I have gotten cash or an Am Ex gift card from the class; this year I got a Coach bag. As a parent, I don't mind chipping in with the other families to get the teacher a gift. Even as a single mom on a low salary, I could always come up with $10 to put towards a teacher gift. I was always really glad when the class parents organized this. This year, I didn't get any gifts for my son's teachers... | | He is in middle school and has four main teachers, not including his French teacher and other specials teachers. Too much, esp. around the holidays when things are tight. I thought, though, that from now until June, I could pick up a gift card every few weeks, so I have them to give to my son's teachers at the end of the year. He is really enjoying his classes and loves his teachers; I want to show some appreciation, so I figure that a nice gift at the end of the year will have to suffice. I also really, really like to get handwritten notes from the parents/kids. It means a lot to me to hear positive things from them. I wish I got more of those! (And I will make sure I take the time to write them for my son's teachers this year!)
