Here are two methods I've heard of

Dental floss - Wrap dental floss tightly around your finger, right up to the ring. Then (if you can) slip the dental floss through the ring. Proceed to unwind the dental floss while it is still in the ring.

The other is to spray your finger with Windex. Some people really swear by this, but I have no idea why it works.
