Clip to ScrapBook
Last year I tried a few things to get the kids quiet each day when I did lunch duty. After they were all served and seated, we did trivia. I would read a trivia question to kindergarten first, and only call on a student
who was sitting quietly and raising their hand. If Kindergarten was being too noisy, the question would go to first grade. The person called upon came up to answer into the microphone and got a candy or a pencil if he/she was correct. We would do two or three rounds of trivia so there were usually 6 questions. (K, 1st and 2nd grade) Many times, the teachers would give me questions about
things they were learing in class to use for trivia days. I would also use Brain Quest cards for each grade level. The kids really loved trivia days.

We also had fun with songs. I would ask certain kids or groups of kids if they wanted to do a song. They would come up to the microphone and sing. We had all kinds of songs from High School Musical to Johnny Cash!! The "audience" was very quiet while their friends performed and were always clapping and cheering for them when they finished.

Finally, I had joke day. Again, when everyone was served and seated, I called kids up to share a joke. They knew they had to be prepared and could not just make something up once they got there. They were hysterical!! You could tell which kids really practiced their jokes. All in all, it went smoothly but I still had to allow for some noise. After all, you cannot imagine how loud our teachers' lounge gets at lunch!! I'm probably the number one culprit! Ha Ha
