I think we're seeing a trend here....the more affluent districts give the "class gifts". I am lucky to be in one of them. I hate to say it, but in our school, the teachers have come to almost expect a class gift of around $200 to $250, just b/c that's what we've always gotten! We get it for Christmas and then again at the end of the year. The room moms do a class collection of about $10 per kid. Plus, we get individual presents from the kids as well. Little things, like candles, chocolates, scarves, etc.... I do feel very lucky, as I'm reading these posts, to realize that not everyone gets what we get.
