At one time we used the microphone and read a Magic Treehouse book during lunch once everyone was through the line. At our school each grade level is in there for 30 minutes with two teachers on duty. (We all get a 30 minute duty free lunch so two teachers did cafetedria duty and two teachers did recess duty which followed lunch.) One teacher read while the other helped open milk, etc. It worked great although we no longer do it. We only have three sections now and so one teacher is on duty by herself thus making it impossible to do this. To help with the noise now we have silent lunch for the first 20 minutes and allow quiet talking the last ten.
