The room mothers take up a collection at the end of the year for a class gift. We usually receive a gift certificate to Borders or a department store. It wasn't done in my old district, but the socio-economic status of the students there wouldn't have made it a feasable option. I was very surprised when I first started teaching in my present district that this was done, but I deeply appreciate the gesture.
