Do we teach at the same school? We have the same kind of thing going on and it is driving me crazy. I don't agree with most of what I do all day long but I am required to do this by my administration. The big problem is| that the building and central office administrators do not understand the new emphasis on "general education access" but they still tell us how to do it. My only comfort is that my students (absolutely the lowest of the low -- deaf/blind and profound cognitive disabilities) are not going to learn any type of vocational skills no matter what I do. The most I can hope for is that they | | become more alert and responsive and that they try to hold and move objects to control at least some aspects of their world. I can work on this through just about any activity. However, I do make sure my lessons are hands-on, activity based and I don't do "hand-over-hand" worksheets, etc. The least I can do is keep things multisensory and stimulating. This is just one more example of an educational system that has gone crazy.
