grading
By Marcie

Clip to ScrapBook
I have been teaching for 7 years in a resource room of 5-7 graders. This is the way I grade, although it can change from time to time. In math and reading, it is fairly straight forward. I give the kids an assignment according
to their abilities, then grade it like any other paper. In English, I generally give the same writing assignment but have different expectations for the students according to their ability. For example one student may be expected to write five sentences, another may be expected to do it without much elaboration, and another will do it with more description. I've found this is
easier to keep the class together, and working toward the same goal, but they can focus on their own specific needs.
Also, I don't neccessarily penalize them when they miss my class because their regular ed class was doing something else (such as a field trip, etc.) I feel that if the regular class missed their normal work, then my student shouldd have that reward as well. Of course there are time when the lesson is just too important, so they must make up the assignment. Anyway, hope that helps a bit.
