I think it is good advise to check into some sign-language classes or books...but I also think you are on the right track looking into talking with pictures. As you said, you are limited in sign-language as is the staff at the facility you work. This is a huge dilema in the real world...not very many people understand sign-language whereas pictures are universal. I would use a combo of tanigible symbols and boardmaker and see what he responds best with and go from there. I would start with the basics first...what he likes to eat or drink and then move on from there. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
