    What I do...

First of all, I wish that I had only one student who had this problem, because then I'd know what name needed to be on the paper! Like Johnsju, I take the time to draw the students' attention to their name, or lack of. I ask them what is the first thing they need to do to their papers upon receiving it. Then, I'll say, "Now I want you to underline your name (pause),, quickly, put a smiley face next to your name!).

Also, after an assignment, I have one student from each group collect the papers...I time them to see which group can get their papers to me first, BUT they cannot bring them to me until they've checked for the proper heading. I'm always amazed by the few students who still do not get their names on their papers, but it's now their peers who are getting annoyed as they remind the "nameless" student to hurry and get his/her name on the paper!

I must say, though, that the :)situation IS improving with continued practice. This is something I'm needing to be patient about as a current 3rd grade teacher (formerly 6th), and understanding that these little ones are still needing guidance, reminders, and practice!
