Using a Discipline Plan in Resource
By Amy Lee

Clip to ScrapBook
Jazzy,

I believe you should have rules and both positive and negative consequences in any class. I would discuss those with your resource students the first day of school and review them as necessary. You will have to
observe the students to see if an elaborate behavior plan is necessary. If it is a class of ED students then you will need a more extensive plan but it will differ from a LD classroom. Some students IEPs will state a modification of a behavior plan as well. Also ask the teacher in your new school how she handles resource.

In my district resource is like study hall and now it is called

directed study. Last year I had students with emotional problems and had a reward system. This year I am teaching a MR and LD resource and the students don't need a structured plan. Although the rules and consequences are posted and we covered them in class. I believe even well behaved students need to be rewarded. So I plan and have did small things such as verbal praise, treats, priveleges, etc.
