I also make them personalized notepads, which costs basically nothing. I buy one ream of cheap paper and print it landscape. The notepads fit 2 to a page. I put "From the Desk of ________ _______" at the top, lines all the way to near the bottom, and then at the very bottom I insert clip art that represents something that child enjoys (soccer balls, basketballs, music notes for singing, etc...). I use the paper cutter to cut the paper and then I use 1/2 of a binding clip and put it together. I usually do 40 or 50 sheets per student in each pad.Two different years I had girls hugging me in tears and when I asked why they were crying they said it was because they had never in their life seen anything with their name on it. (Unusual names). It was touching! In addition to the pencils and notepads I give them a free book order (bonus points) and I also made a Winter Break fun pack filled with fun activities (most of them educational, slipped in right under their noses!) for them to do over break. That is also copied on plain old paper (I make the cover with color) and bound with a binding clip. I tell them that if they complete the entire pack and return it after break they get to have lunch with me and get a special surprise! (Varies from year to year, an example might be a pass to "Sit at the Teacher's Desk for a Day". This is always a big hit because so many of them go on long trips over the holidays. Have fun! Kristie
