I think your idea sounds like a great one. Having taught that age group and being the mother of 3, I agree that kids that age are still "kids". Our society is trying to make them grow up so darn fast... when in reality they still want to be kids. Stick with the prize box. A suggestion for the coupons might include a "no homework night coupon". My son got that somewhere along the way and saved it til he was super busy and turned it in. It was worth its weight in gold that night. You can make up all kinds of coupons like.."a special message to parents coupon" or "take a break coupon". I am sure as you learn to know your students you will come up with coupons that are more applicable... and very valuable. Good luck...
