My first year of teaching I taught grades 1-4 with moderated disabilities. It took a long time for me to get comfortable with all that's involved. By the end of the year I devised a schedule that worked for me...My day was fast and furious. Because their attention spans were so short and their needs so great I scheduled activities that lasted 10-15min. I used music to signal transitions. I varied activities-maybe a independent desk activity then circle time then singing/dancing then small group centers based on IEP goals then break then whole group again then lunch then... Don't be afraid to make adjustments to the schedule. Good Luck!
