Erica,
Congratulations! I'm sure you will have a great year! Do you mean grades K-5th? I have a K-8th classroom and love it. There are many challenges with the multiple levels but, the older students help out with the
younger students during games, snacks, cooking, outside activities, etc. I keep the academics very structured. But I try to group the students as much as possible to make it easier on myself. I use theme based units in my classroom this helps with planning and organizing. My biggest suggestion to you is to have your schedule in place before the students arrive the first day. I didn't
the first year I had my classroom and I felt like I didn't know where I was going/doing. I try to have a very detailed schedule, including the student schedules as well as the paraprofessional schedules (I have 3 parapros in my room). Enjoy your class!!
