Clip to ScrapBook
I also teach behaviorally disturbed kids and they are quite a challenge...You sound very interested in meeting their needs and doing the best for them...that is half the battle because you are showing them that you care which
to some of them is a new concept! STRUCTURE, ROUTINE and CARING are the main 3 things in my classroom. I have 1st and 2nd ED kids. Lots of times they just want to held (talk to your principal about hugging and touching kids appropriately....pats on the back etc) My principal encourages this nurturing. Also another biggie fo ED kids is to keep your voice down as much as possible.
Whisper to them and talk to them softly even when they are acting out and you want to scream at them! Most of the time they are yelled at lots at home and that just continues the negative cycle. Good luck and let me know how it goes!!
