SoCal,

We have been battered into believing we have to take that !@#!. You need to do a little homework and gather some support.
Get some information regarding the rights of your other students, your rights and
the policies governing this behavior by:
1. Talking to your union rep.
2. Talking to your special ed department head
3. Calling the special ed consultant in the main office.
4. Investigating your state laws regarding assults on students and teachers. Our state has some really strict ones that don't let special ed students off the hook.

I would also put in writing, to
the principal, that these students' behaviors make it impossible for you to guarantee the safety of the students in your classroom.

Document! Document! Document!

I have been sent to the emergency room by a behavior disordered special ed student. When I got back to school I told the principal and his parents the next time it happened I was calling the police before I called the principal. In my state that is my right. Suddenly things got better.

BTW why didn't the parents of the bitten children raise a stink?

Maddie
