mentoring By EMO109

I had a wonderful mentor during my first year of teaching. She was a HUGE help all year!
In order for the mentoring program to work best, I think the mentor should be in the same school, and preferably at the same| grade. This helps with scheduling, since both people will have the same schedule, and it will help with any curriculum questions. Make the program flexible, so that it doesn't become extra work for the new teacher -- instead let the mentor & new teacher find a way to use the program the way that they need it to work. I also think it's important to have a way to switch mentors, just in | | case there is a personality conflict. Most importantly, I think it's important to recruit mentors who are really wiling to be good listeners and friends, because it can take a lot of time, so it has to be something that they really want to do.
Best advice I wish I had gotten: You can't do it all, otherwise, you will burn out. Instead, prioritize and concentrate on the most important things and learn to let the little things go.
