Letter people Memories
By readerabbit

Clip to ScrapBook
I taught with the Letter People when they first came out in the 80's.
The boys were consonants and the major 5 vowels were girls. I still have the cards that I used. I had a former kindergarten call me long distance just
to find out what you are asking. He was redrawing the Letter People for an Art project in a graduate course. He said he remember the songs/characters and the fun he had learning. If you look on the site mention above .wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Letter_People. I would advise using the original ones not the revised. I remember going to a vendor in the mid 90's and ask why did you change the
program. The answer was "they wanted to be politically correct" If you don't have to have the blow ups,
just make a flannel hand puppet, or little bean bags and put sticky foam letters or what ever. I would suggest if you can track down the music to each one to find it. The music was awesome. When I would test the kids for letters and sounds sometimes that could not give me the sound but they could tell me Mr. F had Funny Feet. That is comprehension.:) Sorry if I went on if used properly the Letter People are awesome. If I went back to teaching Kindergarten I would use them in my own way no matter what the district was using. Oh! I still have the manual somewhere.
The letters come ALIVE ! and isn't that the objective. If I can help PM me. Good luck:s)
