As far as what "stuck" with me the most...there were many things but perhaps it was her own experiences which caused her to re-think what understanding and making sense of text really means as well as our tendency as teacher
to underestimate the ability of our students to think at high levels even when they are still learning to read. My notes and handout are at school so I will add more specifics including her email address which she said you could email and request a copy of the power point and research.

As far as the 2nd edition she said it was 75% different than the 1st again do to her personal
experience as a researcher/teacher who went to the most poverty stricken schools in the US and whose work with students caused her to revisit some of her own definitions of what it means to understand. Futhermore she has re-defined her strategies, effective approaches/tactics, and of course included updated and current research etc...

Hope that help a little, I will try and be more specific when I can look at my info. to help me in choosing the "right" words to express what stuck:)
