Clip to ScrapBook
Make a paper flip book that has five pages.

Monday- they write a newspaper caption to go with a newspaper picture that you have hung up on the board.

Tuesday- They write a super story starter using several
sentences, with the chosen LEAD you have written on the board... for example an onomatopoeia, a date, conversation, etc.

Wednesday- They reflect upon a poem that you have hung on the board. Reflection might be a drawing, a comment, a question.

Thursday- Word of the day- Put up a mystery vocabulary word of the day and have students write down what they think the word means.
Ask them to talk about any clues in the word that might have helped them or other strategies they used.

Friday- They write a word problem or trivia question..or answer a mock interview question...write a poem.

You could collect them on Friday and return them each Monday. This would be a perfect 5-10 minute activity and you could use the daily ideas to best meet your class needs or goals. I bet the kids would think this was fun and it would make them have to be accountable to do something rather than chat with their peers
