Generosity and Sharing
By annzinnia

Clip to ScrapBook
I am not a librarian, but I love librarians...they know so much and are so helpful. Check out the website for the American Library Association, ALA, they have lists and all kinds of excellent stuff....all about books.

For
the lower grade levels (PreK - 3), I would suggest the Caldecott winner, "Make Way for Ducklings". The premise of the book is that we look at each other in a better light when we care for the least important....in this story...the ducks. Each person who helps the duck parents is filled with good feelings that they pass on to other people. The illustrations are fantastic...it won
a Caldecott award, and the sepia tone makes the pictures timeless in their beauty.

For mature 2nd graders, or older students, the MUST HAVE book for sharing and generosity is "Stone Soup". There are many variations of this story, but I think that the Caldecott winning version by Marcia Brown, with illustrations by Marcia Brown represents the essence of the story in the most real way....how to reach out for help when in need(the soldiers), how to be generous(the peasants) and how not to be greedy which is an important component of accepting generosity.
