idea for special ed help
By Laura

Clip to ScrapBook
I read your question about wanting to know what to do with special needs students in your private school. My first question is, does your school want to "label" them as special education students? If they do then you have
the law on your side. No matter what state you live in you have the federal IDEA guidelines that have to be followed. You can get a copy of them and use them to show your school administrators what is needed. Now, I am not familiar with private schools at all so I don't know if what I am saying will make sense but these are just some ideas. Next, if your not going to classify the
students with special Ed "labels" and you still want to get a base line of where to start, there are several basic assessments that can be done that to not take up as much time as long standardized tests and still give you some idea of what students strengths and weaknesses are. I can ask around for specific names if you would like. I don't have any right off the top of my head. I hope this was of some service to you. Good luck in your work. Working with special needs students in my mind is wonderful. You'll have fun seeing them make gains.
