daily points
By JulieS

Clip to ScrapBook
One plan I have done is similar to the contract, but more positive. Students earn points for each section of the day: reading, math, PE, recess, etc. 3 points=excellent student behavior, 2=good behavior, 1=poor, 0=unacceptable
behavior. After each lesson/period of time, students get a "new slate" to begin earning points again. At the end of the day, points are added and averaged (I taught my kids how to do this themselves; excellent practice with decimals and finding averages). Students with higher averages get more points and more privileges , obviously.

Another idea is the "fishbowl". When any

student is doing something good, write their name on a list. At the beginning point out why they are earning a chance to be on the list. More times their name is on the list, better chances of winning. When a student misbehaves (probably the three target students), draw an award from the fishbowl (free homework pass, 10 minutes free time immediately, ice cream coupon, new pencil, etc.) The top name on the "good behavior" list gets the prize. Therefore, when a student misbehaves, they see another student get a tangible reward. If their aim is to hurt others or take control of the class, this really thwarts their efforts.
