Re: What's up with appreciation days

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm just gonna lay it down. I know I sound mean and selfish but these "appreciation" days are annoying.

At my school, we get together as a grade level and chip in to buy lunch for whatever "group" is being appreciated.
If not lunch, then something smaller like starbucks.

And here they are:

Administrators day (we have Admin. interns, curriculum coordinator, etc.)
Bosses Day (prince and asst prince)
Administrative support day (secretaries, bookkeeper & aides)
Custodians Appreciation day
Bus Drivers Appreciation Day
Librarian Appreciation Day
Counselors Appreciation
Day
Nurse's Appreciation Day.
School lunch week (lunch ladies day)

Did I miss anyone? It seems like every month we are opening our wallets and donating...I don't know any other job where there is so much MONETARY appreciation going on. I know my DH doesn't have to do this.

But sorry, as to your question...if there is no way to somehow "talk" to the PTO people and let them know that teacher appreciation week should only apply to teachers, and to explain that the others have already been showered with love during their own appreciation days, then I think your plan is fine. I would just be a little worried that the other groups, having become accustomed to the established custom, might misunderstand and feel slighted. Good luck with whatever you decide.
