Re: Sitton Spelling
By TeachFun

Clip to ScrapBook
I had Sitton training in the early 90's, then started using it about 8 years ago for a year. Our building tried to "adopt it" but most went back to Zaner Bloser. At that point we used the Zaner Bloser traditional program
and added 3 Sitton High Freq words to each weekly list.

This year I'm going to try to use some Sitton ideas and Words Their Way. The Sitton piece that I think will be most effective is the students' "no excues list." Students have a somewhat personalized list of high frequency words and they are expected to spell those words consistently correctcly in their daily writing.

I think I'll begin the year with a high frequency word assessment as well as the Words Their Way assessment. I may consider using Sitton with those who need it, and Words Their Way with those who have most 3rd grade words mastered. I'll probably make a final decision after assessments and discussion with teammate.
