things we do...

We've done this in the past... and it's ranged from get togethers after school to Secret Pals to weekend retreats.

Just a list of stuff we've tried:
Secret Pals
Weekend retreat (or a one day retreat for team
building.. no school stuff)
Exercise groups after school - exercise videos, walking, volleyball teams
Monthly lunches - though this requires all to join in, it's still fun.
Boo - starts with one person, and then travels through the school from person to person until everyone get "boo'd" (for Halloween)

One of my favorite things EVER, someone got an icky, cheap fruitcake one

year and a card and put someone's name on it but didn't sign the card. For some reason, we decided it would be funny to scratch the name out, put someone else's name on it and put it in their "mailbox"... there were three or four of us that started it.. and we passed it to each other to get it going... so you got the idea of scratch out your name and pass it on... it got highly entertaining after a point. It wasn't anything expensive, and we all had fun and got a good laugh out of it.

I also had a principal one time that gave us "an hour" for Christmas - we could choose when we wanted it (for the rest of the year) had to give her advance notice.. and she'd take our class for an hour - no reason needed. I thought it was a cool idea.. and everyone appreciated it, didn't cost her anything but time.. :-D

New teachers - we've do tote bags with the schools name imprinted on them filled with stuff like post-its, pens, a calendar from the local band/credit union, etc. and a luncheon for them. All the "old" teachers bring a dish (we've done potluck, salads, etc.) and we either have it at school or at someone's house, and the new teachers are invited and introduced to everyone in a "less formal" setting. It's also a great "back to school" for the rest of us.. :)
