morale
By Teach'n'Learn

Clip to ScrapBook
I don't think gimmicks do anything to boost morale. The way morale gets boosted is if there is an administration that cares and puts in effort to meet the needs of teachers.

"Teacher Appreciation Days" and lunches
and little doo-dads in boxes just make me feel like money that could go to my salary, extra resources, or new books is being wasted. Not much of a morale booster. I also tend to think of morale boosting gimmicks as superficial and without real meaning to them. It doesn't make me feel appreciated to get a certificate saying, "You're Appreciated!" when I know the Morale Committee spent
3 hours at 3 separate meetings coming up with the perfect wording and color for the certificate for every teacher in the school to receive.

Things like making sure the teacher's meeting is run efficiently and ends on time, not changing schedules at the last minute several times a month, understanding that teachers have lives outside of school, backing teachers up when it comes to confrontational parents, having supplies available and ready for teachers, etc. THOSE things would boost my morale.
