My room had a musty smell so first thing each morning, I sprayed tables, cubbies, and high traffic areas with Lysol or Clorox spray. This also helped cut down on germs during cold/flu season.

We can't use plug in oil air fresheners due to fire marshall regs. You can try a nonflammable oil product that uses wooden reeds to soak up the oil in a glass container. It's called Room D'Light and the cinnamon smells really good. A colleague of mine used this last year in her room.
