RE: Name calling
By Michelle

Clip to ScrapBook
Thank you for helping me put my day in perspective. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who's had it with this behavior. What I've done is to take all the fun out of it. In fact, I ask her to repeat what she just
said 9 or 10 times. Then, I just stand there with a blank expression and say, "So?" Since she is getting no reaction, she has quit the name calling.

If ignoring doesn't work, try teaching him some new name that would be nicer and give lots of intense praise and/or a treat each time he uses one of your words instead of one of his. You can even tell him "I've got a bag of M&Ms in

my pocket and I'm going to give you one everytime you say _____ instead of an ugly word."

However, watch out -- it could always get worse! I got my little angle to quit saying ugly words. So today, she urinated on the floor right in front of the bathroom door and proceeded to start taking off her clothes in class. BUT -- She didn't say an ugly word the whole time! ARGHHHHH!
