The Best Bug to Be is the BEST!
By Groovy Gal

Clip to ScrapBook
When I taught third grade I always used The Best Bug to Be by Dolores Johnson. It's a Scholastic book and out of print now, but if you went to Amazon or Ebay I bet you could get copies.

It is about a young girl
who gets the part of a bumble bee in the school play. The other kids tell her that their part is the best and hers is stupid. But after talking with her parents she decides to do her "personal" best for herself and her parents. She ends up doing the best and shining.

I did an entire week of lessons on that book, including vocabulary, story mapping, art. The first day of school
I had the kids make a bumble bee to take home to remind them to be the best they can be. The kids loved the story and the activities and it kicked off our year with a positive, academic focus. :)

Good luck. I start on Wednesday with Staff Dev. and next Monday with 5/6 combo. ;)
