math centers/tubs By erika

I use math tubs almost everyday to begin our math time. The children come in from PE or music and go to the tub. This has worked really well for us. Ours are set up for two children in a group. They are around the room| and the children rotate to the next one each day. I have two in a group with 11 tubs. You have alot more children, so you may have to make bigger groups. At the beginning of the year, all of the games reinforced and remediated basic math facts. I kept them for a nine weeks. If I didn't get to them everyday, it didn't matter. We just rotated to the next group when we did them. I | | have the names on cards and the name of the tub on cards. I just move the children's names. Now I have changed them to include multiplication facts, etc. I got alot of these ideas from a great site---mspowell.com. I also ordered a partner games book from Great Source, and I had a math games book. I run these off on card stock. In the beginning, I took 1 day for each math tub to teach procedures and how to play. Some of the games we played as a class. When I made the switch, we learned two games a day. By the way, where are you located? I am in Pascagoula. My children's school and our home were destroyed. Fortunately, my school was spared. Hang in there. I know conditions are tough.
