Differentiation at centers

I use different colors for the different levels. For example at the independent reading center I used leveled readers. My advanced readers will use the readers that have the cherry colored activity sheets , the on level
readers will have green and the below level will have yellow. At the listening center the activities required may be the same for each level but the children stick with the same colored paper. I usually have an activity sheet for each center. The papers are distributed at the beginning of the week and kept in the child's work folder until the end of the week when we go over them in
small groups. The children are busy and don't seem to notice that they are working at different levels because everyone goes to the same centers. At the reading center, the advanced group will be given more fill in the blank or why do you think questions to answer where the below level group will be given more multiple choice questions. At the working with word center the above level group may be asked to use the words in a story or sentences of their own making where the below level group will be asked to fill in blanks. I have some children who will participate in the above level in one center and a below level in another center. It has taken me a long time to find a system that works for me but I think I finally came up with one. I fine tune it each year so maybe I'll have it down before I retire or the powers that be decide to try something else.
