I do belong to a union. They are in the process of helping write a formal letter to the adminstration about this issue. Every SPED staff has requested that this student be evaled in an out of distric placement, many of us
in writing. We keep keeping the same response: "We are looking for an appropriate setting to conduct such an eval." When we ask on the progress of finding such a place, we get the same response. I have informed them I will be leaving in May, so I suppose that they feel if they can keep me quiet for another 4.5 months, they will just hire some other poor soul for this upcoming year. We

have talked about home one-on-one instruction. I was told that I would have to be the one to go the home, which I absolutely REFUSE to do. This childs parents already dislike me. I am not going out that home, for I feel that I would be in danger from this student and his family on their own turf. I at least have some protection within the school walls. I tried to get another position in this school last year, and was told no. I was specifically hired for this position, and if I didn't want it, there would be no other position for me here. I had to stay because I felt we needed the money too badly for me to leave. Boy...have I learned money isn't everything. I would rather be bankrupt then put up with this one moment longer. I hope something good happens tommorrow when I talk to that union rep. about drafting a formal letter. If when I go back and this keeps happening and I get no response from the prinicpal or the sped coordinator, I am going to the superentiedent. If nothing happens there, I wonder if I have basis to get out of my contract for the rest of the few months on the basis that they are not protecting my civil rights. I just hate this. I feel like I'm going to have a nervous breakdown. I thought it was bad when he was just hitting me and swearing at me!!! Well, thanks for the suggestions...I have been trying most of them. I appreciate your taking the time to write. I am beginging to thing there is nothing I can do. Something needs to be done about teacher rights!!!!
