Lingering parents
By TDSteacher

Clip to ScrapBook
My second year of teaching, I had one mother who arrived early every day and spent the entire 30 minutes from that time until class started in my room talking and talking and talking... She drove me nuts!!! Unfortunately,
I didn't have the guts - or the administrative support - to tell her to leave.

These days, the school does a pretty good job of keeping the parents out of the hallways and classrooms. The Head of School stands at the carpool line in the morning, and we gather the kids in the cafeteria until classes start. Some parents still walk their kids in (usually Kindergarten parents),
but they usually don't do past the cafeteria.

Funny thing: this year I had a mom who had a history of bringing all three of her girls back to the classrooms in the morning. I never said anything to her about it, but I did tell my 5th graders that they were not to leave the cafeteria in the mornings. The mother still popped into classrooms from time to time, but she rarely came to mine and her 5th grader stayed in the cafeteria!
