Our parents are allowed to walk

their child into the school each morning. The first day we allow them to drop them off in the classroom. After that the students are required to come to our hallway and the students sit quietly outside their classroom
door until the bell rings. If a parent occaisionally drops their child off at bell time its not a big deal, but if they keep doing it we kindly explain that it's important for our routine that the child is sitting in front of the classroom before the bell rings. We have had a few parents that have tried to come in and unpack for their child etc. We usually have the guidance counselor
talk to the parent about how this is not appropriate. One persistant parent (not in my room) was met at the door by both the guidance and assistant principal and not allowed near the classroom b/c she wouldn't let her child do anything independently. (Not even take off his own hat and jacket!) It became an issue b/c the child completely shut down in the classroom and wouldn't even try to do anything on his own. She was upset and threatened to take her child out of school (never happened), but after a few weeks the child did a lot better- socially and academically.
