Open House By luvnjesus

Our school has Open House before school starts also. Ours is set up a little different. All of the teachers have a table and they are set up around the circumference of the gym. The kids and their parents come in, find| their table (which is decorated kid-friendly), and meet their teacher. I give them a little certificate, goodie bag, or balloon to get them excited about the year. After about 1 hour, the kiddos stay in the gym and there is some sort of "show" (musician, magician, dancers, etc.) and the assistants and specials teachers stay to supervise. The parents then go to the classroom with the | | teachers and have an introduction and year overview "session". It actually works well this way. The parents get all of their "office forms" and I get a chance to talk with them and introduce them to our "ways" so they can help their children transition. This year, I have made a booklet that goes over the grading procedures for each subject. I have thought about it for several years and just never got it done. I am going to give this out at Open House so the parents will be "on board" from day 1. PM me with your email if you want a copy. It is too large to attach here. This is also the time I give out the Parent Questionnaire and introduce them to the M.O.N.K.E.Y. Binders I use (just like MOOSE). Hope this helps! Good luck! Ours is coming up in a couple of weeks. No matter how many time I do this, I still get a bit nervous. Although I love this format, this is probably my least favorite part of the year. Anxiety:eek:!
